Please explain your answer here, if you wish.

In 2020 we saw a big "defund the police" movement.  Were you ever in support of that idea, attend anti-police rallies or vocalize/post support in defunding police?  What is your opinion on the subject now?

The Clark County Sheriff's Office has one of the lowest law enforcement officer-to-population ratios in Washington State.  Moreover, when compared nationally, Washington State has consistently maintained the lowest number of officers per capita in the United States for many years. Understaffed police agencies result in officer safety concerns, untenable work-life balance issues, and poor response times and service levels.

The Sheriff has made multiple funding requests for additional deputies; have you supported or would you support these requests and what other ways do you plan to address the staffing crisis?

National news regarding federal law enforcement and police actions in other states is often politicized, both at the state level in Washington and within the local community of Clark County. This politicization can create the perception that law enforcement in Clark County operates inappropriately or unfairly.  How do you plan to support local Deputy Sheriffs and ensure that their actions are clearly distinguished from those of law enforcement agencies in other areas?  Please explain what you have done to support Clark County Deputy Sheriffs in this regard and your opinion of the recent Anti-ICE resolution adopted by the Clark County Council: 021726-resolution_jurisdiction-and-immigration-activity_0.pdf.

FOR CLARK COUNTY COUNCIL CANDIDATES:

The Sheriff's Office has been without a Central Precinct for nearly 10 years and has been operating out of a substandard west precinct that serves approximately 246,000 unincorporated residents of Clark County. What is your plan to establish a new precinct? If you are an incumbent, what actions have you taken during your time on the Council to make the creation of a new precinct a reality?

FOR CLARK COUNTY COUNCIL CANDIDATES:

The community deserves well-trained law enforcement officers. What steps have/will you take to ensure that Deputy Sheriffs have access to adequate training facilities? Additionally, what is your position on prohibiting CCSO personnel from using Camp Bonneville for training?

FOR CLARK COUNTY COUNCIL CANDIDATES:

Do you support the Charter amendment currently being considered by the Charter Review Commission that would prioritize funding for Clark County Deputies and potentially appear on the November ballot?
